Tell me about how this album came into fruition.
I had a bunch of songs from the past couple years mostly recorded but with no real plan to release them.
“Tar paradise” and “Sweeper” were the first and defined the direction everything would go in.
Some [of which] I dropped on YouTube.
Marcel of Primordial void reached out about putting a release together so I finished up the best of them, made some visuals
Who are your influences?
Early inspiration for writing music was 80s hardcore. It feels like there’s this large shift to alt rock/ indie away from hardcore. I see cr on that wave.
It’s basically the evolution of our punk band in college. Really anything alt rock / shoe gaze / indie affiliated.
This YouTube channel “brain gazer” archives a lot of bands I like and anything close to them – Thinking like bugg, narrow head, smoking room bands.
I love a lot of Aussie music from the past decade or so too like alien nose job, raw prawn, anything Mikey Young touches. cr is just trying to be a little of everyone I like.
I remember Alex G saying be the rockstar you want to be or something like that in an interview. I agree with that.
How do you guys divide songwriting duties?
Song writing is mostly all me. I play through the songs a lot with just dyl on drums to figure those out. Ill jam on them with the band or at James’ too to feel out the ideas and figure out some parts.
I’ll take some ideas from James or Aron.
Everything gets cemented in during demos.
Dylan on the drums.
I play everything else.
Hardest part about recording the album?
Maybe writing lyrics, wish I was better at that. or tracking down Dyl for the drums? It’s just fun figuring out and working through all the song writing/ recording processes.
I was basically learning how to mix along the way which was frustrating at times but I wanted to do it myself.. thinking I’d like to work with someone that knows what they’re doing next time though so I can see it done better.
Any plans to tour this release?
No real plans. Though we are planning on going to Europe and Georgia the country next summer. our old bassist and dear friend Aron is writing over there right now and we miss him.
It’s a bit of a joke that we’re gonna play some shows there too but I think we all wanna do it so maybe I’ll make it happen.
We all got jobs so touring seems hard but we made it to LA this summer and down to play anything we can.
What countries are you guys hitting up in Europe?
I’d love to play London. There’s so many cool bands from there I’m listening to right now. Maybe like France or Spain. Wherever we can put something together.
And Georgia [the countrywhich isn’t Europe really but it’s closer to there than here.
Have you befriended any local bands from that area yet? any music scenes you’d like to immerse yourself in?
I’d say cr is kinda sceneless. I’m pretty bad at promoting the band. There’s def a bunch of bands I listen to that I’d love to play with in nyc tho. I guess we’ve played a couple shows with family vision a while back. Think their last release was on a cool Philly label called Julia’s war.
I like the idea of playing with bands/ artists that wouldn’t fall into a cant read genre too. The bands always on me to play more shows. I should probs be listening to them more.
