Gingsu on their latest album Rattaca.
You guys seem to do quite a bit of genre mixing. If intentional, what started that?
We know that we’re a band that really can’t be effectively categorized as a single genre, and that’s just by virtue of our natural creative process.
Because of our various personal influences and interests, we make songs that veer into lots of different musical territories.
Sometimes those influences overlap and we have a more unified sound, but we’d liken our songwriting to some kind of chemistry experiment; we follow whatever is most exciting in the moment and whatever happens happens.
Tell me about your upcoming album.
Our latest (and first!) album, Rattaca, is a huge milestone for us both as a band and as individuals.
It was a big step up in terms of both our songwriting and production quality, and we’re extremely proud to say that we financed everything ourselves.
It was a massive commitment from all four of us, but the enthusiastic response from our fans has been quite encouraging.
We’re really stoked about every song on this record, as each one is incredibly unique from the pack and (in our collective opinion) an ear worm in some respect!
What’s been your favorite venue you’ve performed at in SoCal?
We couldn’t decide on one favorite SoCal venue between the four of us, so here’s most agreed upon contenders:
SOMA (San Diego) because the crowds are awesome; Music Box (San Diego) because of how great and everything sounds both onstage and in the audience; Transplants Brewery (Palmdale) because of its amazing setup and professionalism; and a special shout-out to Guadalupe Brewery (Vista) for hosting our album release show!
What’s next following Rattaca?
We’re currently getting together material for our upcoming split EP with our NorCal friends Umb; in addition to this, we’re already working on songs for our next album. We’re also planning a tour for the very near future, and currently considering which cities we’ll be hitting!
Is there anything else you’d guys would like to experiment with in the future?
For our next record, we’re going to be taking a look at some more modern production elements and seeing what we can do in that department to get an even more unique sound in the studio.
In terms of our writing, we always have so many different inspirations between the four of us that we’re never at a standstill in our experimentation.
We’re currently writing some groovier hard rock tunes, as well as some Polyphia-inspired melodies/arrangements, as well as a stripped down, folkier tune.
There’s always something new on the horizon!
